Messages

Messages is the inbox of GPS Essentials. The app writes a message whenever something happens that you should know about, even while the app is in the background. Open it with the Messages button on the start screen or in the navigation drawer.
Messages are always listed by time with the latest message on top of the list and older messages further down. Unread messages have a blue dot below their icon so that you can distinguish them from messages you have already read. The Messages button on the start screen shows the number of unread messages.
What You Find Here
- Upgraded to … tells you what's new after an update.
- Track Recording Started, Track Recording Resumed and Track Recording Stopped. The last one says why the recording stopped and gives the distance, duration and elevation gain.
- Navigation started and Navigation stopped.
- Track Deleted, Route Deleted and Stream Deleted when you delete a stream.
- Out of Memory when a picture could not be processed.
- Notes about the app itself, such as Usage Statistics.
Messages can contain links and you can tap on them to follow. For example, when you started recording to a track, you can tap on this track right from the message.
Read and Unread
Only important messages will be marked unread. A message is filed as read when you caused it yourself, for example when you stopped a recording; we don’t want to steal your attention. When recording or navigation stops without you asking, for example because the battery is low or Android did not allow it to continue in the background, the message stays unread. In that case a notification also tells you why it stopped.
Messages about recording, navigation, deleted streams and memory are removed automatically once they are more than two weeks old, so that your message list is not getting too long.
Working with Messages
Tap a message to open it. This marks it as read. There you can also choose Mark as Unread, Share to send the title and text to another app, and Delete to delete the message for good. It does not go to the Trash.
In the list, tap and hold messages to select them. Then choose Mark > Mark as Read or Mark as Unread, or Delete to move them to the Trash. The Messages list is a stream, so everything in stream view works here, too.
