Pictures

Shows, locates and shares the pictures that you took within GPS Essentials.
In Pictures, you can swipe through all pictures of the Pictures stream, which holds the pictures you take with the camera in GPS Essentials. To see the pictures of any other stream, open the stream and select View > Pictures from its menu.
Pictures that you took with other apps, such as the camera app of your device, do not appear here by themselves. To add one, share it from that app to GPS Essentials.
Swipe to browse. Tap a picture to view it. The picture gallery supports a full screen mode that hides navigation decorations so that you can focus on the content.
📱 Switch the picture gallery to immersive mode
- Double tap in the picture list to switch to full screen
- Double tap again to switch back
- Swipe from the edge of the screen to show the navigation buttons
The menu of the gallery offers Add, which opens the camera to take a new picture for this stream, Mark to copy or move the current picture to another stream, Delete, Show on Map, which opens the map at the location where you took the picture, and Share, which sends all pictures shown here to another app. Selection > Copy here or Move here copies or moves the elements you have marked into this stream.
Viewing a Picture
A single picture shows its name in the toolbar. You can pinch to zoom in and out and swipe to pan.
- Edit opens the picture's details, such as its name, description, tags and location, in the waypoint editor.
- Rotate turns the picture by 90°.
- Adjust Horizon straightens a picture that you took with the phone tilted. It uses the tilt the camera recorded, turns the image so the horizon is level, and crops the edges. This changes the stored picture.
- Mark, Delete and Show on Map work as in the gallery. Which map opens depends on Default Map Type in Settings.
- Share sends the picture to another app.
Transferring Pictures
To share a single picture, select Share from the menu. You will get a list of apps that you can use to share the picture. The list grows when you add more apps capable of sharing data.
To send many pictures at once, use Share in the gallery. Each picture stores the location and direction where you took it; the settings under Saved Image Meta Data in Settings control whether your device ID and location are also written into the image files.
Saving Memory When Processing Pictures
When you capture a picture, GPS Essentials post-processes it in the background to store additional information. This can run out of memory, especially when you have many apps running and you are processing large pictures. GPS Essentials then leaves an Out of Memory message in Messages. Reduce the picture size in the Camera screen, or close apps you are not using.
